The Manitoulin Planning Board adopted Official Plan Amendment (OPA) No. A-3 for an Area-Wide Natural Heritage System Strategy, (as amended from November 22nd, 2022) at the Regular Meeting of Plannng Board held on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023. It will be provided to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for their consideration of approval. The link to the 'Notice of Adoption' is found below. The OPA, No. A-3, is contained in the 'Appendix A' to the Planning Board Minutes of January 31st, 2023 found under the 'Public Notices' tab on the home page of our website.

November 22nd, 2022 A Public Meeting was held at the Planning Board Office in Gore Bay, Ontario to consider the adoption of an Official Plan Amendment (OPA) for a draft Natural Heritage System Strategy for the District of Manitoulin. The OPA was not adopted at this meeting. For more information, please refer to the Minutes of Planning Board of November 22nd, 2022 found under the 'Public Notices' tab on the front page of our website.

The Planning Board hired a consultant to review the policies of a 1st draft Natural Heritage System and is working towards updating those draft policies and draft schedules to reflect this policy guidance. The report prepared by the consultant is available here: Natural Heritage System Policy Review. A 2nd draft document, once completed, will be available on our website. A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. to consider an Area-Wide Natural Heritage System Strategy (NHSS). The Notice of for this Public Meeting is available on the front page of the Manitoulin Planning Board website.

The Manitoulin Planning Board hosted a virtual Public Information Session for the Natural Heritage System on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Included here is the presentation that was made at the meeting, as well as draft mapping showing candidate core areas, open space areas, and linkages identified from existing available Natural Heritage feature mapping.

The Manitoulin Planning Board hosted a public information session for the creation of a Natural Heritage System Strategy (NHS) at the Mindemoya Community Centre at 6032 Highway 542 on Wednesday, August 21st from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
